About Port Douglas

Port Douglas - the best of Tropical Queensland. It’s the place where glittering green merges into blue; the only place on Earth where two World heritage listed jewels exist; the Great Barrier Reef and the rainforest of Daintree and Cape Tribulation.

Today, it’s an international resort destination for the discerning traveler. With it’s pristine wilderness, total tranquility, superb golf courses and a wealth of activities including the magnificent underwater world of the Great Barrier Reef, this is a magnetic destination.

Port Douglas cosmopolitan Village sits on an isthmus beside the sparkling waters of Dickson Inlet and the rolling waves of the Coral Sea. Overlooking 'Port', as everyone calls it, is Flagstaff Hill, which is the best place to capture the striking views of the town and its superb Four Mile Beach and views to Low Isles.

We all need time out now and again, enter this laid back tropical oasis with sophisticated worldly comforts with a small friendly village atmosphere. Go from business suit to barefoot and frantic to free. Refresh, restore and revitalize, in the aquamarine reef waters of the Coral Sea, the crystal creeks of Mossman Gorge, and the palm fringed golden sands of Port Douglas Four Mile Beach.

The climate is seductive. Balmy days dissolve into tropical evenings with velvet starry skies. The tropics are a feast for the senses; the sights, sounds and tastes; excellent restaurant, superb galleries and Port’s renowned Sunday markets - you will never want to leave! Sometimes, we even inspire ourselves through the events we experience. It can be seizing the moment at a cultural festival, or sensing the intent of an artist on a small canvas. It’s a moment of connection. Of realisation. Our Shire loves to celebrate the sheer joy of life in the tropics. Life as we know it. The inspiration for our uniquely creative artists, crafts people and fashion designers.

The Peninsula Boutique Hotel is the perfect base from which to experience all this amazing region has to offer.
